Wow - that was Shanghai then! A great trip with great company, but shooting-wise mixed emotions. Before the trip I'd decided my two main objectives were to enjoy it (no point being there otherwise!) and to hopefully shoot what I'd expect to average in a domestic tournament given this was my first time representing GB and was a heck of a long way to travel to shoot some arrows! Objective 1 was safely accomplished as it is a fascinating place to visit and the competition was also great fun, and I also met objective 2 shooting 679 when last year's competition average was 678. Unfortunately, shooting my average score in such a high class field doesn't really 'cut the mustard' and I'd have needed to have shot at the top of my current game to have been seriously competitive and therefore a little disappointed in that respect. I just missed being the third member of the GB male team by having a poor finish to the qualifying round and lost my head to head against a Russian archer by putting in one poor end. Still, great experience and if I should be lucky enough to be in such a position again I'm pretty confident that I'd finish the matches off better with the experience gained. It's never your first time twice...
