I always enjoy shooting at Chippenham and my scores there usually turn out to be among my best of the year. Whether the enjoyment brings the scores or the scores bring the enjoyment, I don't know, but if both occur it doesn't matter! I had a bit of an epiphany in training the week before, discovering a much better release technique than I'd been using previously. I've spent a number of months trying various subtle changes to my form, but I really felt before this competition that I was onto something that was promising. I shot hundreds of arrows at blank boss the week before to drill it into my subconscious and started the competition with the aim of using the new technique for every shot and not expecting too much score wise due to the recent change. I actually ended up shooting 1385 - my best score of the year and that included a few 'dodgy' ends, so I can see where the points for 1400 can be found. So, plenty of winter training coming up to hone the new technique and focus on physical conditioning whilst the competitions are few and far between. |
