A trip to Scotland was well worthwhile this weekend when I managed to achieve two 6th places at the first two stages of the National Series 2014. Warm weather but pretty blustery both days. Shot 668 to qualify joint 2nd in the qualifying round. Won my first match but then lost my second by 1 point. Shot 1372 in the next day's FITA. Overall I'm now lying 5th in the series league table with 4 more stages to come.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable time in Antalya, Turkey competing in the 3rd stage of the Archery World Cup. Weather was extremely hot (well, for a Brit anyway!) and blustery most of the time. Shot a 674 in qualifying, which put me in 75th place out of a field of 96 - lots of room for improvement, but given the conditions I was reasonably happy and did manage to shoot better than in Shanghai even though the score was lower. In the matches I was seeded against a Mexican and shot a poor last arrow on the first end to give him a lead he pretty much maintained to the end of the match. GBR men also qualified for the team event where we met 1st seeds Netherlands in our first match. We gave them a decent run for their money but eventually lost 229/232 and the Netherlands then went on to eventually win the gold medal. Again, this was a great experience and learning opportunity which I hope I can build on in the future.
Wow - what a mad weekend. Headed up to Lilleshall for the weekend's selection shoot for Euros and Turkey. I say weekend, but I was fully expecting to be decamping and heading back home come Saturday evening as only the top 8 progressed to Sunday. Shot a mediocre 680 at the first 50m qualifier Saturday morning and then got my act together for a better 692 in the afternoon. Still wasn't expecting any good news though, so pretty amazed to come 7th overall and get through to day 2! Sunday was no less surprising, as I shot what I thought was an ok round robin of H2Hs without really setting the world on fire, yet managed to come through in 6th place to hang around for the final 6 shoot off H2Hs in the afternoon. This was a seriously hot weekend and someone estimated that we shot the equivalent of 2 world cups from qualifying to the finals all in one weekend! Had some good matches in the afternoon and some not so great ones. By now it was a war of attrition and dehydration! When the dust died down and the mirages of oases disappeared at the end of the day, I was in 5th place overall. The icing on the roller coaster weekend was the offer of attending the 3rd stage of the world cup in Antalya, Turkey! So time to sort a visa and invest in more sun screen...
