So that's what it's all about - what a fantastic spectacle. Been lucky enough to get out to Paris to watch the compound finals below the Eiffel Tower in what has to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Great entertainment and visually spectacular with the dramatic backdrop of the most impressive 'temporary' structure ever erected. Great emotional control practised by all the archers under conditions that must be almost impossible to fully prepare for. Baking hot and windless day allowed for some fantastically accurate shooting. Hats off to World Archery and the city of Paris for the choice of location and the show. Please go here to see some photos. On a personal note I came back from a fantastic but exhausting week in Paris with the prospect of the Chippenham FITA in 4 days time. After a break from shooting and only a couple of days available to practise I wasn't sure how it would go. The day was a perfect Autumn day with little breeze. Shot reasonably well at the 90m & 70m, struggled at the 50m and entered the 30m with a narrow lead of a few points. Held things together with a 357 at 30m to win with 1371 - I'll settle for that as the last outdoor competition of the year. |

Glorious weather for the Meriden FITA weekend. Probably shot close to my best apart from the 90m each day. I couldn't understand how people weren't being affected as badly as me by the low morning sun which is over the targets at Meriden until late morning. I'd put an extended scope cover on but still struggled to make out the colours on the target and also my scope bubble. Day 2 I realised that it was the sun reflecting in the clarifier in my peep sight that was the issue. Replacing this with a straight through one immediately improved things at the expense of an in-focus target, but still an improvement. Shot 1372 Day 1 and 1378 Day 2, which given the pretty average 90m both days was a decent result and increased my ranking points by 7, although a number of guys put in really good scores this weekend which will make it pretty tight to get into the top ten ranking this year which is my objective.
